Why are we improving LeBourdais Park?
LeBourdais Park is one of Quesnel’s two feature parks, and hosts some of our key events throughout the year. A recent community survey highlighted that the park is the most beloved and used by our community. Recently, we have made some major improvements to the space and will continue to do so for the benefit of families, visitors and community members.
What type of input are we looking for?
We are asking community members to contribute ideas about improving general features of the park, and fill out a quick, five-minute survey on park elements including potential:
There are also specific items they might be able to identify (lighting, sound systems, etc) that could inform where we should spend the budget. Please contribute those ideas in the comments.
Where might the trail be located?
We are looking at a number of options to better connect the various elements of the park with the Arena precinct and the museum and Shiraoi House.
Is the Rotary Ball Park being moved?
There are no imminent plans to move the ball park. We have the opportunity to make further park improvements, and the survey is our opportunity to consult with the community on if there is a higher or better use for the place where the ball park currently is. If the ball park was moved it would happen at the same time as improvements would be made to the two premium ball parks located at West Fraser Timber Park and Barlow Creek to make those places better for all ball users. The purpose of the survey is to listen and learn from the community about your ideas on this issue, and that input will be considered when Council makes decisions about this project.
How will improvements to LeBourdais Park be paid for?
We’ve been very successful in obtaining grant funding over the last few years and would like to prepare plans to update areas of LeBourdais Park that could be submitted for grants. Most grants still require some funding from the City and this could come from a variety of sources, such as gas tax funds or the City’s yearly general capital budget, and that would be determined in the future.
How do I stay in touch with the project?
Click the register button on the Let’s Connect Quesnel site and sign up to receive emails when projects are updated, added to, or completed. Registering will also give you access to our discussion boards, surveys, comment sections, and new initiatives when they are posted. Let’s Connect Quesnel is an ongoing online space where the City will continue to engage with the community on projects that matter to you.
